Artist Statement

As a photographer, I am interested in creating images that capture the beauty that I see all around me. I hope that others are able to see and experience that beauty through my photographs. I work mostly at night using black & white film or in the daylight using infrared film. Most of my favorite images have a surreal or dreamlike quality to them because of these techniques.

The photographer Michael Kenna said, "Beauty and danger,…that about sums it up for me." That particular quote rings very true for me. I love the feeling of shooting in darkness and the feeling of shooting something that is not 'supposed' to be shot. There are not many greater thrills for me than capturing a special image and then having to, somehow, escape from somewhere with my camera and film intact.

Although my images are a representation of reality - the reality that I see through the lens - there is usually something lying just below the surface. I think that a good photograph should have an element of mystery to it. Hopefully, that sense of mystery will cause the viewer to think or at least to take a closer look. I see a sense of underlying calm in a chaotic world and I hope that viewers of my work can sense that calm as well.

About the Artist

I'm 39 on the outside... but my inner child is perpetually 20-something... I'm a single dad to a wonderful girl named Rebecca... she is my Sunshine!... I am so blessed to have her in my life... she inspires me to always be a kid AND to work at becoming a better man. I just met an incredible woman named Jaime and I have more than a huge crush on her. Life is so good!

I have been a web designer at Fort Campbell, KY for four years. I also handle photographic and video duties there along with a thousand other things. I graduated from Austin Peay State University in 2003. My major was Computer Science, but my true passion is photography. Upon taking an intoductory Photography course in 2001, I fell in love with the medium. Needless to say, I declared my minor in Photography. Maybe I needed to excercise the right side of my brain? I am planning to pursue photography for the rest of my life and would like to work towards a MFA in Photography eventually. Whatever my future holds, I am sure of one thing - I will continue to explore my love of photography.
